Busan gives Korea a different tempo: sea air, hillside neighbourhoods, seafood markets, beaches and a looser rhythm than Seoul. It works well as a second stop after the capital or as part of a south-coast route.
How many days do you need?
Two full days is enough for a quick taste. Three or four days gives you time for both the classic city sights and slower coastal walks without spending the whole visit in taxis or on the metro.
Where to stay
- Seomyeon: central, practical and good for transport.
- Haeundae: beach-focused, polished and convenient for the east coast.
- Nampo-dong: markets, harbour energy and access to Gamcheon Culture Village.
A 3-day Busan plan
Day 1: Start around Nampo-dong, Jagalchi Fish Market, BIFF Square and Gamcheon Culture Village. This gives you Busan’s harbour side, food streets and hillside colour.
Day 2: Move east to Haeundae, Dongbaek Island and the coastal train or sky capsule area near Cheongsapo. Add sunset if the weather is clear.
Day 3: Visit Haedong Yonggungsa early, then spend the afternoon around Gwangalli Beach or a quieter cafe area. Gwangalli is especially good at night when the bridge lights come on.
What makes Busan worth it
Busan is not just Seoul by the sea. The geography changes the feeling of the trip: hills, ports, beaches and bridges keep appearing in the background. Plan with distances in mind and give yourself permission to move slower.
